Cleanings and Checkups
An integral component in preventing the development of oral health conditions is receiving regular dental cleanings and oral examinations. Beyond practicing proper oral hygiene, cleanings remove substances like tartar buildup that cannot be removed by home-care practices. During cleanings, our dental hygienists also evaluate gum health by measuring the space between teeth and gums—a reliable way to determine if gum disease is present.
Oral examinations involve assessing overall oral health by examining the health of teeth and gums and looking for abnormalities such as bone loss and signs of oral cancer. By receiving regular checkups, Dr. Salter is more likely to detect potential problems early on and provide treatment to prevent them from advancing.
Preventive and Restorative Dentistry
In addition to checkups and cleanings, our dentist provides preventive services such as dental sealants and fluoride treatments to protect and strengthen teeth. Our restorative services include fillings, crowns, and bridges. Our practice uses biocompatible restorations including amalgam-free fillings. Made from composite resin, amalgam-free fillings contain no mercury and can be tinted to blend in with the natural color of teeth.
To help our patients feel at ease during dental procedures, we offer varying levels of sedation. Dr. Salter places a high priority on patient comfort. We offer nitrous oxide, mild oral sedatives, and IV sedation. Sedation dentistry is used to help anxious patients feel at ease or during procedures that require more time and/or stillness.

Visiting the dentist regularly is important for preserving vital oral structures such as your teeth, gums, and jawbones. When you attend dental appointments on a regular basis, you greatly increase the likelihood of having oral disease and potential problems detected early on. As with other forms of preventive care, early detection typically means that a person can receive preventive or minimally invasive treatment that is also cost effective. By coming to our practice for routine cleanings and checkups, we can help you maintain or achieve vibrant oral health.
Brushing and flossing is the cornerstone to protecting your teeth and gums against daily exposure to bacteria. You should brush your teeth at least twice a day. One of those brushings should ideally occur just before bed. When brushing, remember to move your toothbrush in soft, circular motions along all sides of your teeth and the gums for a total of at least two minutes. You should floss your teeth once per day, every single day. Aside from brushing, flossing is important for removing plaque and cleaning between the crevices of teeth where a toothbrush cannot reach.
You should receive two cleanings per year, every six months. In some instances, you may need more frequent cleanings if you are at high risk for gum disease or have developed the early stages of periodontitis. Brushing and flossing at home is not enough to keep tartar and plaque accumulation from affecting your oral health. Cleanings are necessary for scraping away substances that oral hygiene tools used at home cannot remove. Dental cleanings are also an opportune time for our team to look for signs of gum disease, oral cancer, and tooth wear.
Sedation dentistry is a service that’s objective is to make our guests as comfortable as possible during treatment. Those with dental phobias or those receiving lengthy procedures benefit from sedation as it helps people stay calm, still, and relaxed. We administer sedation via nitrous oxide gas or through prescriptions in tablet form. If you would like to discuss dental fears and phobias or the benefits of sedation dentistry, feel free to bring this up at your next appointment with our dentist. You may also call our office to discuss any special needs you might have prior to your appointment.
